About Us

Yarbun Creations is more than a business it is a living, breathing expression of culture, family, and legacy. Proudly 100% Aboriginal-owned, we are descendants of the Yuwi and Ghungalu people. Our roots are deep in Mackay, Woorabinda, and the Black Down Tablelands. Our purpose? To keep cultural knowledge alive — and to share it with the world.
We do not just create. We connect. Every artefact, every product, every workshop is a bridge between the past and the present. Our team brings together generations of knowledge, grounded in tradition and guided by community.

Leading the Directors is Uncle Uncle Steve Kemp the founder of Yarbun Creations, a respected Ghungalu Elder, artefact maker, bush medicine knowledge keeper, and cultural teacher with over 30 years of lived experience. His stories are not found in books. They are carried in memory, shared through art, language, and land.
Uncle Uncle Milton Lawton is one of our First Nations Consultants and is a Bidjara and Ghungalu descendant. He also leads the team with a lifetime of cultural science knowledge. As a community educator, STEM award recipient, and traditional toolmaker, Uncle Milton brings both innovation and insight. His focus lies in teaching science from an Indigenous perspective — blending curriculum with culture in powerful ways.
Melanie brings decades of experience in First Nations program development and cultural education. At the young age of 20 her family gave her the obligation to protect their cultural in modern day society. She has many hats that she wears but her favourite is as a mother. Her passion is rooted in truth-telling, education, healing, and visibility, she was an applicant to the Yuwi Native Title claim and has been involved with her community through numerous volunteer and paid roles. She was also held roles such as Director for Yuibera Aboriginal Corporation, Mackay NAIDOC committee, and Yuwi Aboriginal Corporation and is also a Director for her own company Younga Yarns Pty Ltd.
Murrie Kemp is a proud Aboriginal man who through his career is always looking for opportunities to give back to his community and promote Indigenous success. He is also the Aboriginal Place Names Officer at the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP). He has a strong passion for bush medicine as his Great Gunnyar (Uncle) Charlie Mummins was a Yarrabunbuddi (Medicine man) who passed this on to his Nardee (Grandad), his Yabu (father) who then passed this knowledge onto Murrie. In addition, Murrie has a strong passion for language revitalisation and its role in identity for Indigenous Australians.
Together, they form the backbone of Yarbun Creations.
Our Purpose
Yarbun Creations exists to heal, teach, and empower. We sell authentic handmade artefacts, handmade Aboriginal jewellery, traditional medicinal body products using native plants, and ochre gathered respectfully from Country. We also run cultural awareness workshops, storytelling sessions, and educational programs that align with school curricula.
Every piece we offer is created with intention. Every session we deliver is done with care. Our dream is to bring ancient medicinal knowledge, cultural wisdom, and Aboriginal strength to people from all walks of life.
We believe education leads to understanding. Understanding builds respect. And respect is where reconciliation begins.

Our Story
Founded in 2022 by Uncle Uncle Steven Kemp, Yarbun Creations was born from a desire to protect and pass on ancient knowledge not only to the wider community but also to younger generations of the family.
There are two Directors for the company Melanie Kemp and Murrie Kemp.

Why It Matters
Our culture is not a trend. It is our identity. We have lived in harmony with this land for thousands of years. Our knowledge of plants, medicine, and survival is profound — yet often overlooked.
Yarbun Creations is here to change that. We want children to grow up knowing the stories of this land. We want families to learn what healing looks like through Aboriginal eyes. We want to show that our people have always been innovators, educators, scientists, and caretakers.
This is not just business. This is legacy.
