Our family walk country to select the perfect trees for our wooden arefacts.  Then we hand craft each wooden arefacts every piece we make is unquie.  We always love to see the way the grain runs through the wood. We also recommending oiling you wooden arefact every few months to ensure it stays in pristine condition (we use lineseed oil).

Coolamon for Gathering and Nurturing

This gorgeous Coolamon is handcrafted from Rosewood sourced on Ghungalu Country. It brings the grounding spirit of Country into your home, honouring a tradition rooted in strength, care, and connection.

Coolamons represent the life-giving role of women in First Nations communities. They were used to carry bush tucker, grind seeds, cradle babies, and serve food around the fire. Today, this beautiful vessel continues to symbolise nurturing, protection, and cultural identity.

A Traditional Tool with Modern Purpose

Traditionally, Aboriginal women used Coolamons to carry gundanoos (babies), gather native foods, and grind seeds into flour. Larger Coolamons became cradles. Smaller ones worked like baskets, carried on the head with soft padding beneath.

Today, Coolamons can be used in many ways:

  • Smoking ceremonies

  • Fruit or food platters

  • Table centrepieces

  • Cultural displays or gifts

Because of their versatility, Coolamons remain a powerful symbol of gathering and giving.

Crafted on Country, Made With Care

We walk Ghungalu Country to find the right trees. We do not take wood without purpose. Instead, we select with care, choosing branches that have strength, character, and grain.

Our family handcrafts each Coolamon using traditional methods passed down for generations. We carve or burn the inner layer depending on the wood and purpose. Every vessel is shaped, smoothed, and sealed to bring out the natural beauty of the grain.

Made from Rosewood

Rosewood is dense, durable, and visually striking. First Nations makers have long favoured this timber because of its weight and long life. More importantly, it holds and honours the spirit of Country.

Each piece showcases its own grain pattern. No two are the same.

Looking After Your Wooden Artefact

To keep your Coolamon in top condition:

  • Use it gently and respectfully

  • Wipe it clean with a soft, damp cloth

  • Oil it every few months with linseed oil or similar natural wood oil

Regular care preserves both the timber and the cultural energy it carries.

Feel the Spirit of Connection

When you hold a Coolamon, you hold more than timber. You hold a vessel that carried life, stories, and nourishment across generations. The smooth curve, the scent of the wood, the grain beneath your fingers — it all speaks of culture, resilience, and care.

Let this Coolamon remind you to walk gently, give generously, and stay grounded in your own connection to place.
